The Dagala Trek offers a unique and less-traveled path, making it an off-the-beaten-track experience. This moderate yet rewarding trek winds through numerous high-altitude lakes, earning it the nickname “Thousand Lakes Trek.” Along the way, trekkers are treated to breathtaking vistas of iconic Himalayan peaks like Mount Everest, Jumolhari, and Masanggang. The trail also passes through bird-filled areas, alpine flower fields, and charming Bhutanese villages, adding to its allure.

 

Begin your adventure with a scenic drive to Genekha Village, renowned for its mushroom production. Trek through terraced fields and lush forests, soaking in the beauty of alpine flora and birdlife. After a gradual uphill climb, reach the picturesque campsite at Gur, surrounded by wildflowers.

 

Trek across ridges, enjoying the rugged mountain scenery and vibrant vegetation. Ascend to Pagalabtsa pass for breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga and the Bhutanese Himalayas. Descend into Labatama valley, passing yak herder huts and reaching Utsho Lake, abundant with golden trouts. Set up camp by the serene lake.

On Day 3, you’ll have an exploratory stop at Labatama. Take the opportunity to discover one of the nearby lakes, like Relitsho, Hentsho, Setsho, or Jagetsho Lakes, each teeming with trout. Your trekking guide will regale you with mystical tales about these serene bodies of water. Enjoy a scenic lakeside lunch, soaking in the breathtaking views. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider ascending the Jomo peak at 5,050m. Return to camp before nightfall to get ready for the next day’s adventure.Drive 12km north of Paro valley to Drugyal Dzong (2580m), the starting point of your trek. Walk downhill along the Pachhu River, traverse rice terraces and fields of millet, and pass through apple orchards and traditional farmhouses. Reach the army post of Gunitsawa (2850m) for permit checks, then cross the Pachu River to Sharna Zampa. Camp in meadows surrounded by trees.

Embark on a journey along Dalatsho’s western side, admiring majestic Himalayan peaks like Everest and Kanchenjunga. Descend to Doccha Chuu River, encountering Himalayan monal pheasants along the way. Camp at Panka amidst stunning mountain vistas.

Traverse several impressive passes, encountering Blue Poppy flowers and mountain birds. Enjoy lunch with panoramic views before descending through diverse forests to Talakha Goempa. Conclude your trek in Chamgang village, where your vehicle awaits to transfer you back to Thimphu.
